US-based Electronic Arts, a video gaming company that owns rights to digital versions of the board game Scrabble, plans to launch a Facebook application based on Scrabble. The new application is expected to challenge Scrabulous, a popular Facebook game developed by Jayant and Rajat Agarwalla of Kolkata.

Earlier, US-based toy-makers Hasbro and Mattel, who jointly own the rights to the Scrabble board game on which Scrabulous is based, had asked Facebook to pull down Scrabulous because they claimed Scrabulous was infringing on their intellectual property rights. Facebook is yet to act on the request. [Source: VentureBeat]
